The Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre (SMSRC) at the University of Khorfakkan is participating in the Sir Bu Nair Festival, organised by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority at Al Heera Beach in Sharjah.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of His Highness the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, with the University of Khorfakkan honoured for its participation in the festival. This occasion brought together participating organisations to highlight their contributions to environmental awareness and community engagement.
Throughout the festival, SMSRC’s booth offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the Centre, explore its research and discover how scientists study the marine environment. Research displays, field equipment and marine samples provide starting points for conversations about scientific methods and the role of research in understanding our seas.
The booth also connects the region’s maritime heritage with modern marine science, highlighting the continuing relationship between coastal communities and the ocean. Interactive activities welcome visitors of different ages and encourage curiosity, questions and discussion.
SMSRC’s participation supports its commitment to strengthening ocean literacy and making marine research accessible to the wider community. By sharing its work beyond the laboratory, the Centre aims to build understanding of marine science and inspire greater interest in the marine environment.
